What volunteer opportunity is best suited for me?
Become a Tutor
The opportunity to become a volunteer tutor is one of our biggest and most rewarding programs. If you like to read - and like people - you will be a great tutor! Our 14-hour training program is designed for anyone and a teaching or foriegn language background is not necessary. For information on our upcoming Volunteer Orientations, view our home page.
Volunteer Recruiter
Assist staff with volunteer recruitment including posting ads online, attending volunteer fairs and making presentations at community centers and libraries.
Special Event Volunteer
Fox Valley Literacy hosts an adult Spelling Bee every fall. We would need help in the areas of preparing mailings for the event, contacting businesses for their support in contestant prizes, event setup, clean up, and collection of survey results. We also hold a recognition ceremony where we would need help in preparing for the event.
Office Volunteer
Provide administrative support to office staff by answering phone, doing data entry, stuffing envelopes, making copies, and helping to maintain the resource room.
Board Member
Meet monthly with Board of Directors to develope and monitor strategic plans, organize and implement fundraising efforts, provide professional consultation, and oversee continuous improvement.

Current Volunteer Opportunities
"Let us encourage and celebrate our ability to read and write. Let us communicate with each other and the world.
I grew up in a family who valued reading and encouraged curiosity. And I was fortunate to marry an author and story-teller with whom I could share my passion for books."
