Fox Valley Literacy Council (FVLC) is a privately funded not-for-profit organization committed to strengthening our community by providing client-focused adult literacy services in the Fox Cities region of Northeast Wisconsin. Our staff and trained volunteers work with adults in one-to-one and group settings on Adult Basic Education skills and English language proficiency so they can pursue additional education, increase their employment potential or otherwise improve their overall quality of life. We are seeking an Executive Director to help continue our success and strengthen our position as a community partner. This person will be responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction established by the Board of Directors. The primary responsibilities of this position include:

Leadership, Planning and Management
Foster a healthy, collaborative organizational culture;
Participate with the Board of Directors to develop a strategic plan;
Develop operational plans and oversee day-to-day operations;
Ensure that programs are effective and represent industry “best practices”

Finance and Risk Management
Direct fund development efforts toward increasing operational capacity and long-term sustainability;
Develop and implement a comprehensive budget;
Ensure legal compliance relative to financial matters;
Identify and evaluate risks to the organization's constituents (students, volunteers, staff), property, finances, image and goodwill, and implement measures to control those risks

Human Resources
Implement HR-related policies and procedures and ensure consistency with legal and FVLC guidelines;
Maintain appropriate staffing levels with qualified and trained people;
Monitor and review staff and volunteer performance and provide coaching and mentoring as needed 

Community Relations/Advocacy
Serve as official spokesperson and enhance the organization’s image by being active and visible, working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations


Position requirements:
A minimum of 5 years experience with progressive responsibility in a not-for-profit organization;
Demonstrated supervisory and collaborative leadership ability that encourages ethics, empowerment, relationship building, creativity and innovation;
Demonstrated grant writing and fundraising success; 
Experience recruiting and training volunteer workers;
University degree or equivalent in a related field;
Flexibility to work offsite and in non-standard hours, depending on the needs of the organization 
Ability to think strategically and critically, problem solve effectively and make sound decisions;
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain functional relationships with the Board of Directors and other stakeholders;
Ability to plan and organize;
Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws;
Proficiency in the use of computers related to word processing, financial management, e-mail and Internet

Desirable background:
Background and experience in adult literacy;
Familiarity with the local not-for-profit community;
Spanish language proficiency 

Compensation
This is a full-time (40h/wk), exempt position. Salary range $45,000 - $48,000, which includes a benefits allowance. Paid time off includes vacation, holidays and an extended holiday-season hiatus.
