Current Volunteer Opportunities
What volunteer opportunity is best suited for me?
Become a Tutor
The opportunity to become a volunteer tutor is one of our biggest and most rewarding programs. If you like to read - and like people - you will be a great tutor! Our 14-hour training program is designed for anyone! A teaching or foreign language background is not necessary. For information on our upcoming Volunteer Orientations click here.
Assist staff with volunteer recruitment including posting ads online, attending volunteer fairs, and making presentations at community centers and libraries.
Special Event Volunteer
Fox Valley Literacy hosts an adult Spelling Bee every fall. There are volunteer opportunities in the areas of preparing mailings for the event, contacting businesses for their support in contestant prizes, event setup, clean up, and collection of survey results. Fox Valley Literacy also holds a recognition ceremony with volunteer opportunities available in preparing for the event. New this year, Fox Valley Literacy will be hosting Book It for Literacy-Fox Valley and is looking for any volunteer support in planning and hosting a 5K.
Provide administrative support to office staff by answering phone, doing data entry, stuffing envelopes, making copies, and helping to maintain the resource room.
Work as a member of the Board of Directors to advocate for adult literacy. Organize and implement fundraising efforts, develop and monitor strategic plans, provide professional consultation, and oversee on-going improvement of quality adult literacy services.
